Heydar Aliyev International Airport

Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku is the largest airport in the Transcaucasia. Its favourable location and quality service made the airport number one in the region for transit flights between East and West, North and South. Built in compliance with the latest international standards, the airport is located 25 kilometers east of Baku and is connected to the city by two modern highways. In 2015, Azerbaijan Airlines and Heydar Aliyev International Airport were awarded the category of "4 stars" by the Skytrax, and in 2017, the airport received the prestigious Skytrax World Airport Awards and was named the best among airports of CIS countries for the level of provided services.

The airport is capable of handling flight operations in a safe, secure and efficient manner in strict compliance with all relevant international standards (EU, ICAO, IATA).


Local Transportation

Rapid economic growth of the country necessitated the development of city infrastructure and public transportation system, construction of new roads, bridges, and launching of the Intellectual Transport Management Center. All these and other measures as well as relevant reforms fostered sustainable development of the city. Environmentally friendly CNG buses are used in public transportation system.

There is a large fleet of transport available for arranging the transportation for the congress. Regular shuttle bus service between airports and official hotels, as well as venues will be arranged for the period of the World Petroleum Congress. Regular shuttle service between meeting venues and all official hotels will also be available.

There is a fleet of new and comfortable MAN Neoplan coaches and Mercedes-Benz Sprinters available for events. A total of 250 MAN Neoplan buses and 100 Mercedes-Benz Sprinters minibuses could serve the World Petroleum Congress.

Experience in arranging transportation gained from previous global events will be utilized during the congress. A dedicated lane at the connecting roads and could be allotted for shuttle busses and other transportation means serving the event. All local transportation arrangements of the event will be regulated by the Baku Transportation Agency.
